چکیده

Objective: Autophagy played an important role in the carcinogenesis of esophageal cancer, and LC3 was a popular marker of autophagy. However, the association between LC3 and prognosis of esophageal cancer was controversial. We conducted this meta-analysis to systemically assess the prognostic value of LC3 in esophageal cancer. Materials and methods: Literature searches were performed in Embase and PubMed databases for eligible studies before June 30, 2016. Hazard ratio (HR) was pooled to assess the association of LC3 with overall survival (OS). Odds ratio (OR) was pooled to evaluate the correlation between LC3 and clinicopathological characteristics. Results: A total of six studies involving 775 patients were included for meta-analysis. The pooled result showed that the high LC3 level was significantly correlated with worse OS of esophageal cancer (HR=1.33, 95% CI 1.05-1.68; P=0.018). There was no correlation between LC3 and tumor grade (OR=0.96, 95% CI 0.68-1.36; P=0.822), lymph node involvement (OR=0.99, 95% CI 0.71-1.38; P=0.959) or TNM stage (OR=0.70, 95% CI 0.43-1.13; P=0.142). Conclusion: High LC3 level was correlated with worse prognosis of esophageal cancer, and LC3 might act as a promising autophagy-related prognostic marker of esophageal cancer.

The expression of LC-3 is related to tumor suppression through angiogenesis in esophageal cancer

Autophagy is important in the development and remodeling of cells. It is required for cellular adaptation to nutrient deprivation and elimination of damaged organelles. Recently, autophagy has been implicated in carcinogenesis and metastasis. We hypothesized that autophagy-related proteins are initiated until nutrition is supplied by angiogenesis. We evaluated the clinicopathological significan...

LC3, an autophagosome marker, is highly expressed in gastrointestinal cancers.

Autophagy is a bulk protein and organelle degradation process essential for cell maintenance and viability. Microtubule-associated protein 1 light chain 3 (LC3), the mammalian homologue of yeast Atg8, is involved in autophagosome formation during autophagy. The aim of this study was to investigate LC3 expression in gastrointestinal cancers to elucidate the role of autophagy in human cancer deve...

The Prognostic Value of Serine and Glycine Levels in Plasma in Patients with Esophageal Cancer: A Case Control Study

Background and Objective: Serine and glycine are connecting lines for biosynthesis and are essential resources for synthesis of proteins, nucleic acids and lipids that are necessary for cancer cell growth. The purpose of this study was to set a comparison of serine and glycine in patients with esophageal cancer and in healthy people. Materials and Methods: 37 plasma samples were collected from...

The effect of swimming training, cell and laser on the expression of genes involved in autophagy (LC3 and Beclin-1) in azoospermia mice

Background and Aim: Infertility in men is 10-20% of cases due to azoospermia. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of swimming training, cell and laser on the expression of genes involved in autophagy (LC3 and Beclin-1) in azoospermia mice. Methods: 30 rats 6 to 8 weeks of age were randomly selected from Tehran Laboratory Animal Research and Propagation Center, and then injected ...
